Week 1 — Proof-based thinking: Geometry is the first course most students encounter that requires formal logical reasoning. Week 1 introduces the language and structure of geometric proof — definitions, postulates, and theorems — and how to use them to justify conclusions. Students work through triangle congruence and basic angle relationships, learning to write two-column proofs with the instructor modeling each step before students attempt independently.
Week 2 — Similarity, circles, and coordinate geometry: Week 2 expands into similarity, the Pythagorean theorem in coordinate contexts, and basic circle properties. These are the topics that appear most frequently in the first month of a DUSD Geometry course. By the end of Week 2, students understand the logical structure of Geometry and have practiced the core proof types they will encounter on their first assessments.
Geometry Get Ready is led by a math instructor trained specifically in DUSD's Geometry curriculum. The instructor understands the shift from algebraic to geometric thinking that trips up even strong Algebra students — and structures the sprint to close that gap before school starts. With a maximum of 8 students, every session includes direct feedback on each student's proof writing, not just whole-group instruction.
